BIOGRAPHY:
Born in London in 1945, Pat remembers an early fascination with shade charts. Her mother was a professional wildlife artist and though she did not share her interest in painting animals she feels she had a great advantage growing up surrounded by a variety of painting materials. In the late 1960s/70s she exhibited in a St Ives gallery but then only painted intermittently until the 90s when she made up for lost time, and has been exhibiting in London and the provinces ever since . In the 1980s she ran her own gallery specialising in 18thC and 19thC Watercolours, and has worked for a gallery selling contemporary artists so has experienced the art world from many angles. Fascinated by light, Pat paints interiors and figures in landscapes with equal enthusiam both home and abroad as well as straight landscapes, but the latter must always have meaning for her. 'I cannot paint a landscape purely for commercial reasons and though I love plein air work, it has to connect with me. The problem with this is that I get attached to most paintings and as much as selling is important it can be a real wrench to part with them. They are part of me.' A regular visitor to Venice and Rome, Pat is drawn both to the vibrant life which abounds in those cities, but also the quiet backwaters of Venice. She has a passion for the pine trees of Rome and Southern Italy. Primarily concerned with colour and the expression of reflected light, Pat finds early morning light and the fading light of evening particularly attractive and strives to capture the magic of these fleeting moments. She has also taken a strong interest in printing, etching in particular, and endeavours to pass on her enthusiasm for printing techniques. Pat lived in Oxfordshire, Herefordshire, Somerset and Gloucestershire before settling in Suffolk in November 2014, with her husband, the writer Michael Theodorou, and a rescue cat, Archie. Her work is in private collections worldwide. See below for list of past exhibitions. Pat also worked as a garden designer in the Thames Valley for several years and wrote for gardening magazines as a freelance contributor. She also lectured extensively on various aspects of gardening through the RHS Speakers list. She has run her own courses, both through colleges and on her own premises over the years. 'To design a garden is very similar to painting a picture, but using three dimensional materials, and is just as satisfying though it's more ephemeral with the passing of time...and of course you need more patience to get a result.' website: Traditional English Gardens if you wish to enquire about Garden Design please go to website traditionalenglishgardens.weebly.com and make contact through the email. minar[email protected] NOT the last home address on the website which seems to have stuck and cannot be removed EXHIBITIONS: 2013: Solo exhibition Malvern Hills Gallery 2012: Fiery Beacon Gallery, Painswick Gloucestershire Society of Artists, Painswick Art in and Around Amberley 2010: In and Around Amberley Exhibition 2008: Bath Society of Artists Exhibition, Bath The Discerning Eye, Mall Galleries, London (chosen by Fred Cuming) 2007: Bath Society of Artists Exhibition, at Victoria Art Gallery 2006: Royal West of England Academy Autumn Exhibition ‘Open the Mind’, Cokethorpe School, Oxon 2005: The Discerning Eye, Mall Galleries, London (chosen by John Orbell) 2004: The Discerning Eye, Mall Galleries, London (chosen by Anne Robinson) 2003: First-View Gallery, Stourhead, Wiltshire Sadler Street Gallery, Wells The Discerning Eye, Mall Galleries, London (chosen by Rachel Campbell-Johnston) 2002: Bath Society of Artists Exhibition, at the Victoria Art Gallery, Bath The Discerning Eye, Mall Galleries, London (chosen by Richard Littlejohn) Royal West of England Academy Autumn Exhibition Sadler Street Gallery, Wells 2001: Royal West of England Academy Autumn Exhibition Sadler Street Gallery, Wells The Burford Gallery, Brian Etheridge 2000: RWA Autumn Exhibition 1999: The Discerning Eye, Mall Galleries (chosen by Lady Patten) Paintings range from £250 for smaller works in pastel, gouache or watercolour to £3500 for larger oils, inc. frame.
